When you make the decision to put your business online with a new website design it’s very important to be confident in the knowledge that your website will be an accurate representation of who you are and what you do to encourage visitors to your site to get in touch.
In many cases a new client will focus on AdWords campaigns, Social Media integration and SEO which can lead to a missed opportunity to deliver the most user friendly design for visitors to their site.
While all three of these play an integral part of your overall online strategy, the most important part of your website project is to deliver the most user friendly site possible for your prospective new clients.
What makes a website user friendly?
First on the list is the ability to get in touch with you easily and quickly. With this in mind all of your contact information should be displayed prominently including phone number, email address, postal address and a map for clients to visit your premises.
Visitors to your site will be looking for contact details for different reasons. You may have been referred to somebody and they are now looking for your phone number to call you, so make sure it is easy to find on all your pages. Some visitors may go online so they can email you with a specific request or query so it is important your contact form is easy to find and quick to fill in. Other visitors may be looking to find you as their local supplier for a particular service and may want to visit your premises, so be sure to include your postal address and EIRcode.
Second is original written content and images that are specific to your business. Tell the visitors about yourself, your company and what sets you apart from your competitors. Always write your content in language that is easy to read for the visitors to your site. Where possible keep industry jargon to a minimum. They say one image can speak a thousand words so try to use original images and where possible avoid popular stock images as the visitor may confuse you with a competitor.
Third is a strong call to action to encourage visitors to your site to get in touch. Telling a visitor to “Get in Touch Now” or “Request a Call Back Now” takes indecision away and works.
Fourth is integration of services from your CRM system. If you are in a business that uses pre-determined appointment times for clients to visit, it makes sense that they could do this and also make payment.
Lastly but by no means least is to update your content regularly using your CMS. Whether you call it a Blog, What’s Happening, Latest News or Latest Projects this allows you let your target market what you are doing and to show your most recent work. This original content will set you apart from your competitors and encourage visitors to your site to engage with you.
